TUCSON, AZ – On National Caregivers Day on Feb. 21, Care in Action Arizona joined a coalition of care workers, disability advocates, and community organizations at Representative Juan Ciscomani’s Tucson office to demand his public commitment to protecting Medicaid funding as Congress prepares the 2025 budget. With millions of Arizonans relying on Medicaid for essential care, advocates called on Rep. Ciscomani to reject any proposed cuts that would leave seniors, disabled individuals, and care workers vulnerable.
“Caregivers dedicate their lives to supporting others, yet their own livelihoods depend on programs like Medicaid,” said Anakarina Rodriguez, Arizona Director for Care in Action. “On National Caregivers Day, we are making it clear: Arizona cannot afford cuts to Medicaid. We need our elected officials to protect the care workers and families who rely on it.”
During the visit, caregivers and families shared personal stories about how Medicaid ensures access to critical healthcare services, home care, and economic stability. Advocates also presented key data on Medicaid’s role in Arizona’s economy and healthcare system, urging bipartisan support to protect and expand the program.
The coalition will continue its advocacy efforts through follow-up meetings, community mobilization, and outreach to hold elected officials accountable and ensure that Medicaid funding remains a top priority for the health and well-being of Arizona families.
