RALEIGH, NC — Today, Care in Action, the policy and advocacy home for over two million domestic workers and care workers across America, announces its endorsement of Satana DeBerry for election as Attorney General of North Carolina. This endorsement comes from Care in Action, the political home for over 62,000 North Carolina domestic workers, which is committed to supporting candidates who champion progressive values and policies that uplift domestic workers and care workers, a workforce predominantly comprised of women and majority women of color who are also a critical voting block in the state.
DeBerry brings extensive experience to the state, including serving as District Attorney for Durham County. Before her tenure as District Attorney, DeBerry served as General Counsel for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, our main partner for wage pass-through advocacy and other work, where she advocated for vulnerable state residents. Her background and achievements, including receiving the North Carolina Justice Center’s 2020 Defender of Justice Award for Litigation, exemplify her dedication to public service and justice.
Care in Action North Carolina State Director Nida Allam said, “Satana DeBerry’s commitment to justice and equity is exactly what North Carolina needs. Her work aligns with our mission to build power with women of color and domestic workers across the state. We are proud to endorse a candidate who understands the care agenda and has actively worked to protect and advance the rights of the most vulnerable among us. Satana’s work in reducing racial biases in the justice system in addition to her role , are testament to her dedication and effectiveness as District Attorney. We believe in Satana DeBerry’s vision for a fairer, more just North Carolina, and we look forward to continuing our work together to ensure that domestic workers and all workers are protected and valued.”
As the enforcer of a hopeful Domestic Workers Bill of Rights in North Carolina, the Attorney General’s office is crucial in advocating for care workers’ rights. DeBerry’s experience and alignment with Care in Action’s values make her the ideal candidate to continue leading the fight for justice and equality in North Carolina.
Care in Action is the policy and advocacy home for women who care, working on behalf of more than two million domestic workers and care workers across America.
