WASHINGTON, D.C. – Care in Action, the political home for women of color who care, acknowledges President Joe Biden’s announcement regarding his decision to suspend his reelection campaign. President Biden’s transformative leadership and commitment to advancing policies prioritizing care workers and caring families are unmatched. We extend heartfelt gratitude for his lifetime of public service and respect his decision not to seek another term.
After thoughtful and thorough deliberation, Care in Action’s Worker Committee and Board reached a consensus to formally endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for President of the United States. Care in Action’s Worker Committee is comprised of 20 care workers, including house cleaners, nannies, and care workers; they represent a powerful electorate of women of color and immigrant women on the frontlines of the fight for dignity and respect. Both our Worker Committee and Board came to a unanimous consensus that Vice President Harris is the leader and the care champion we need at this moment.
Jenn Stowe, Senior Advisor to Care in Action, released the following statement:
“Under the Biden-Harris Administration, we have witnessed unprecedented progress for care workers and the care economy. President Biden’s commitment to building a robust care infrastructure has laid the foundation for sustainable, high-quality care that supports millions of working families. From expanding access to affordable childcare to enhancing support for home and community-based services, the Biden-Harris Administration has championed policies that uplift workers and families who need them most.
Our movement is made up of workers, leaders, and mothers who understand the importance of electing candidates who truly see and understand them. After receiving unanimous support from our Care in Action worker committee, we are thrilled to support Vice President Kamala Harris as the nominee for President. Vice President Harris has consistently demonstrated her unwavering dedication to fighting for dignity and respect for workers, supporting immigrant communities, and relieving caring families. As the first woman and first woman of color to serve as Vice President, she has broken numerous barriers and paved the way for future generations. Her leadership in the Senate on issues ranging from reproductive freedom to protections for DREAMers exemplifies her commitment to the values we hold dear. As a Senator, Vice President Harris was a lead co-sponsor of the Federal Domestic Worker Bill of Rights, championing the rights and dignity of domestic workers nationwide.
Vice President Harris is the leader we need now. Her groundbreaking leadership will be instrumental in addressing the ongoing care crisis, ensuring that care workers receive fair compensation and that families have access to the support they need.
This November, women of color will turn out in record numbers to cast their ballots for Vice President Kamala Harris. We know that she is the leader who truly has our backs. And as an organization of Black, Latinx, AAPI, and immigrant women, we will have hers.”
Care in Action, a 501(c)(4) organization, was founded in 2016 at the request of domestic workers who knew they needed to build political power to advocate for dignity and fairness for this workforce.
