Care in Action Continues Call for Budget Bill That Protects Domestic Workers from Premium Increases, Medicaid Cuts

Washington, D.C.  — Care in Action – the policy and advocacy home for women who care – released the following statement as Congressional Republicans continue to refuse to pass a budget bill that repeals Medicaid cuts and prevents looming premium increases from going into effect.

“Congressional Republicans are still insisting that they would rather force a shutdown than pass a budget that stops health care premiums from skyrocketing and restores Medicaid coverage that millions of children and families are set to lose as the Republican Big Betrayal Bill goes into effect.

“Care in Action is proud to represent the 2.2million domestic workers in our country, who play an essential role in caregiving but are paid only $20,926 a year on average. Without Medicaid, many of our workers will be unable to afford health care coverage they and their families need. And they certainly won’t be able to afford to pay 75% or more for premiums.

“As Republicans drive up health care costs, they are creating a crisis for domestic workers and the many families across the country who are already struggling with high prices. Rather than continuing down this path and making things worse for people who are already paying too much, they should work with Democrats and pass a budget bill that brings health care costs down. Families across the country, including domestic workers, are watching and desperately need relief.”
