Tonight, Care in Action celebrates the decisive victory of North Carolina Governor-elect Josh Stein, one of our endorsed candidates committed to advancing a care-centered agenda for the state. Selected through a thoughtful process by our Worker Committee—composed primarily of childcare workers who have won historical investments in North Carolina’s childcare infrastructure— Stein’s focus on strengthening the care economy reflects the leadership needed in this key battleground state. His commitment is a step forward for families, workers, and communities who rely on a robust care infrastructure to support everyday life and economic resilience.
Hillary Holley, Executive Director of Care in Action, released the following statement:
“Care in Action and the hundreds of child care workers we work with celebrate Josh Stein’s win as a major victory for North Carolina’s families, child care workers, care workers, and economy. Stein’s leadership brings continued hope for a future where care is prioritized, valued, and funded. His commitment to continuing Governor Cooper’s investments in North Carolina’s care infrastructure will help ensure that the people who care for our loved ones—from childcare providers to caregivers for aging and disabled adults—have access to fair wages, resources, and respect for the vital work they do every day.
In North Carolina, care work is central to our communities and economy, allowing families to thrive and enabling other industries to prosper. By investing in child care, Stein is setting a foundation that supports job creation, keeps parents in the workforce, and reduces the high costs of care that burden so many families in our state. His policies recognize that affordable, accessible care is not only a moral imperative but an economic one, critical to North Carolina’s growth and future.
With over 55,000 domestic workers and more than a million caregivers across North Carolina, Stein’s victory is a win for the heroes of our economy who deliver billions of hours of unpaid and underpaid care each year. We look forward to working with him to ensure North Carolina’s care workforce is strong, resilient, and empowered to build a future that reflects the values of dignity, equity, and opportunity for all.”
