Washington, D.C. – In response to the House Republican majority passing Trump’s megabill – clearing the way for the President to sign it into law – Care in Action released the following statement:
“The final passage of the ‘Big Bad Bill’ is a massive blow to an already crumbling social safety net for millions of Americans. House Republicans approved nearly $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid over 10 years to expand tax cuts for billionaires and increase immigration enforcement, clearing the way for the bill to be signed into law by Trump. Make no mistake that this is an assault on American people, straight from the Republican leaders elected to protect them. While Republicans lie about the benefits of this devastating bill, what they really voted for was to leave working families further behind, cut the health care of 17 million Americans, and bloat ICE’s budget to increase the attacks on our communities. As we approach the July 4th holiday, it’s clear the Republican majority in our government is not living the values it claims it holds – families and workers are struggling to afford the basics, health care and long-term care will be further out of reach, all as the ultra-wealthy continue to get richer. Our elected officials should be focused on making our lives better – instead, they just passed what will be the most devastating overhaul to our social safety net in modern history. We will continue to hold those who supported this death sentence of a bill accountable.”
