On Heels of Kamala Harris’s Historic Home Care Expansion Plan Care in Action PAC Announces Multi-Million Dollar Investment in Virtually Tied Battleground States

NEW YORK — Care in Action, the leading organization advocating for care workers and caregivers across the United States, celebrates Democratic Presidential Nominee Kamala Harris’s announcement of a historic home care expansion under Medicare. This proposal represents a monumental step forward in addressing the urgent financial needs of the ‘sandwich generation’—working adults caring for both their aging parents and their children. As roughly one in four Americans falls into this category, Harris’s plan offers them a lifeline in the form of physical, emotional, and financial relief – which voters, many of whom are still considering sitting out this election – continue to demand this election cycle. In support of this effort, Care in Action PAC is making an additional multi-million dollar investment in key battleground states like Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Nevada to ensure the care economy is a top priority in the 2024 election. Combined, these battleground states represent over 190 thousand care workers, 5.2 million caregivers, and 4.8 billion unpaid hours of care valued at $74.4 billion

Harris, appearing on The View, shared her vision for transforming long-term care in America by allowing millions of seniors and people with disabilities to remain in their homes rather than in expensive nursing facilities. The proposed program would also free working-age Americans from the pressures of managing care alone, opening up new opportunities for them to pursue education or employment outside the home.

Hillary Holley, Executive Director of Care in Action, shared:

“This is more than just a policy proposal—it’s a lifeline for millions of families caught in the middle of caring for both their aging loved ones and their children. This is the financial relief that families are screaming for. Kamala Harris’s commitment to expanding Medicare to cover long-term care at home acknowledges the weight of unpaid care work that often falls on women, particularly women of color. In stark contrast, Trump and Vance’s agenda threatens to dismantle vital care programs like Medicaid, Medicare, and Head Start, leaving millions without support. Trump has never had to worry about being able to pay bills while an aging loved one needs support. He doesn’t understand, and doesn’t care to understand, what it takes to survive as a working class family. Harris and Walz have proven their dedication – via federal executive actions and passing care agenda policies in Minnesota – to care, while their opponents’ regressive policies would further burden working families, disregarding the basic needs of caregivers across the country.”
