Care Can’t Wait Action leaders issued the following statement on tonight’s vice presidential debate, where Governor Tim Walz showed how he and Vice President Kamala Harris will lower families’ costs and put working families first by investing in the care economy. Senator J.D. Vance defended Donald Trump’s Project 2025, a blueprint to hand massive tax cuts to billionaires and slash investments in workers and families.
“We agree with Governor Walz: care is the biggest issue for families. Tonight, Governor Walz once again showed why care voters want to send Vice President Harris to the White House. These two leaders know that at a time when the cost of child care and aging and disability care is more than rent or mortgage in nearly every state, and only 23 percent of workers have paid leave through their employer, an opportunity economy means an economy in which families can find and afford the care options that are right for them and their loved ones, and that ensures care workers are paid a good wage.
Meanwhile, all Senator J.D. Vance offered is lip service and the same Project 2025 economic plans to hand tax breaks over to billionaires and slash investments in care. Care voters are with Vice President Harris and Governor Walz because they’re the only candidates in this race who are truly focused on making our economy work for workers and families.”
